Remembering to Boast in Jesus
Piper loves to cook in the kitchen, so we let her do things within her ability: cracking the eggs, stirring things in the pan, pouring ingredients into bowls– just anything that she can handle. Recently, I’ve tried new sourdough discard cookie recipes that are so delicious, but they require a few extra steps to make them all the more delicious, like browning the butter, sifting the flour, and chilling the dough before putting them in the oven. They come out so warm and yummy that the extra steps seem worth it.
Last week, I had some sourdough discard to use, so I decided to make them. I started the process while Piper was watching a movie. She came in at the tail end of putting the batter together, so she probably only put in the last of the dry ingredients and chocolate chips; there wasn’t too much to do before putting it in the fridge other than letting her sneak a taste.
Trusting God with All Your Heart
I grew up in a Christian school all the way up through the fifth grade. At North Shore Christian School, every morning we would stand, say the pledge of allegiance, sing “God Bless America,” pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, and say the school’s Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6. I think in many ways, that was one of the first ever verses I ever burned into my young memory.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. For six years of my life, that was how I started my school day. What a foundation and a truth to stake a young life to!
Leaning on God in Our Bitterness
If you witnessed God parting the Red Sea and were a part of all the rejoicing and worship that happened immediately after, how long would it take for you to become desensitized to that experience? How long would it take for you to fall back into complacency, doubt, or an overall questioning of God’s timing, wisdom, plan, etc? A few weeks? A month? A year? Do you know how long it took Israel to go from triumphant praise at the awe-striking power and provision of God to grumbling and complaining over external hardship?
